Title: Apache configuration file for IMS-LD Runtime

Authors: Glahn, Christian

Abstract: The configuration sets up a "Reverse Proxy" that allows to use a out of the box runtime system and integrate it into another production system. The Reverse Proxy forwards all requests to the runtime as if they were made directly to the system. A side effect is that the underlying JBOSS system will become invisible to the end users.

Description: Glahn, C. (2011). Proxy configuration for apache server running IMS-LD Runtime (Version 1.0) [Computer software]. Heerlen, The Netherlands: Open Universiteit in the Netherlands.

Aloqa and layar augmented reality feeds

Title: Aloqa and layar augmented reality feeds

Authors: Ternier, Stefaan

Abstract: This code enables setting up a database with POIs and exposing them to aloqa and layar, two augmented reality browsers.

Description: Aloqa is a service that proactively notifies the user of Point Of Interests (POIs).It runs on iPhone, blackberry and android. With this tool you can easily get directions to events, places, buildings or other places of interests. Layar builds on the same principle, but has a browser that augments the camera feed of your mobile device with these POIs so that you can see these POIs hovering over the actual building. This package contains code to setup a database with POIs. Furthermore, it exposes two APIs: an aloqa API and a layar API. Currently, this application is hosted as a service on the google app engine, where all content from the MACE () project is made accessible for both Aloqa and Layar users.

Related Drupal Nodes Block

Title: Related Drupal Nodes Block

Authors: Van der Vegt, Wim

Abstract: A Drupal module that exposes a block that shows links to pages that are related to the currently visible page.

Description: Related Drupal Nodes BlockThis module exposes a block that uses Latent Semantic Analysis (Lsa) internally to suggest three nodes that are relevant to the node a user is viewing. This module performs three tasks.1) It periodically indexes a Drupal site and generates a Lsa Term Document Matrix. Indexing is performaned each Cron job and uses the text found in the body of drupal nodes. The indexing can be very processing time and memory consuming.2) When a node is shown, the text of this node is used to perform a query against the Term Documen Matrix and the best three matches nodes are displayed in this 'relevant nodes block. As opposed to the indexing the query is fast.3) It allows the administrator to tweak most Lsa settings. For this Lsa knowledge is necessary.Note: This module uses the php_lsa engine found on lsa.codeplex.com. This php_lsa engine is a php extension that runs only on windows machines. Thus this module will only run on wamp servers.Note: Documentation, binaries and sources of the php_lsa extension can be found on http://lsa.codeplex.com.IMPORTANT: The php_lsa engine assumes certain paths where to store temporary files and has to remove all files there when re-indexing. As this removal is performed recusivly it is recommended to check the temporary file path to be correct and up to that time disable the code at the lines 548 to 565 of lsa.module!

Deconstructivism (Villa dall'Ava)

Title: Deconstructivism (Villa dall'Ava)

Authors: Gruber, Marion

Abstract: In this Learning Design a meaningful fragment of a student’s personal learning process in an architectural design course is captured. The student has to acquire the thorough understanding of a building’s architectural values by pointing out its formal features and relating them to other relevant buildings, to the architect’s history and to its historical period. In this case, learning means to realize the network of relations that structure acquire information. A simple search with online search engines would overload the student with unnecessary information, which hinders the learning process. The scenario shows how MACE uses thematic search to solve this problem and produces much more focused and effective results.

Description: Gruber, M. R. (2009).
Self-organised Learning about Modern Architecture

Title: Self-organised Learning about Modern Architecture

Authors: Gruber, Marion

Abstract: This UoL is an example for the possibilities of preparing teaching and learning architecture and construction engineering using ReCourse. It provides a proof-of-concept for integrating MACE services and contents in IMS-LD.The topic of this Learning Design is ‘Self-organised Learning about Modern Architecture’. In this course learners can learn the principles of modern architecture. They get an overview of the general topic, and in addition to this, they can focus on a chosen topic, which they are especially interested in. Thereby the students activate their existing knowledge of modern architecture and obtain knowledge of history and theories of modern architecture and the related arts, technologies and human sciences. They learn to search for relevant content and information. The students work on a topic and focus on it. They summarise the results of their work for a presentation. Finally, the students will have to discuss their results with their peers.

Description: Gruber, M. R. (2009). Self-organised Learning about Modern Architecture. MACE-project.
Title: MACE for Educators

Authors: Gruber, Marion; Börner, Dirk; Ternier, Stefaan

Abstract: MACE supports teachers and learners to increase their knowledge aboutarchitecture and construction engineering, it maintains teaching and learningprocesses and offers a set of various possibilities to utilise the MACE portaland the competence toolset in education. This project enables access tolearning units and digital architectural contents irrespective of provenance andlanguage. It provides services for meta-tagging and content navigation as wellas search and reuse functions via different possibilities. MACE allows visitorsto navigate metadata in order to access content repositories through a toolsetfor a critical mass of digital content for learning with semantically well-definedmetadata and associated formal descriptions that give meaning to metadata. These tools enable the application of quality content based services. MACEcontributes an infrastructure that allows interested visitors to participate, evenafter the project has ended. The competence toolset is part of thisinfrastructure.Content in this section:1.
