Competence Information Fusion: Concepts and Challenges

Title: Competence Information Fusion: Concepts and Challenges

Authors: Miao, Yongwu; Sloep, Peter; Hummel, Hans; Koper, Rob

Abstract: In tracking the development of competences in learning networks, a large amount of competence information can be gathered from diverse sources and diverse types of sources, which is subject to uncertainty and unreliable. In this presentation, we proposed that information fusion technologies may be applied to address the problem and show promise as candidate solutions for achieving an improved estimate of competences by fusing (possibly inconsistent) information coming from multiple sources.

Implications of writing, reading, and tagging on the web for reflection support in informal learning

Title: Implications of writing, reading, and tagging on the web for reflection support in informal learning

Authors: Glahn, Christian

Abstract: This presentation discusses the use of tags in content retrieval and content annotation in a collaborative working environment. The results presented here are based on a three month experimental study.

Implications of writing, reading, and tagging on the web for reflection support in self-directed learning

Title: Implications of writing, reading, and tagging on the web for reflection support in self-directed learning

Authors: Glahn, Christian

Abstract: This presentation puts a provocative view on tagging. Four dimensions of tagging are analysed: 1. prior research, 2. socio-semantic background, 3. using tags for collaboratively annotating resources, 4. accessing tagged information.
